Getting this

Kinja'd!!!

Out of the little hole towards the bottom of the door is like solving one of those brain teaser puzzles.

As it  turns out I didn’t really tighten the assembly up enough when I replaced the motor Midway through 2017. Well it's all tight and loctited now. I do not want to yank that out again.

Oooh, fixing a window.

That brings back happy memories from last month. Not.

At least you don’t have to take the entire door apart and loosen the front panel of the car t o enable you do so.

I have to do same on my XJ. Not looking forward to it. I’m getting by with my equinox by driving around with out the door panel and pushing up the glass and or applying tension to the cable and the motor continues the rest of it.

When I did that I got that black tarry goop they use to tack down the plastic sheet all over my hands, my shirt , and everything else I came in contact with for the next hour. That was the most annoying part of opening up the door, but I didn’t need to fish the mechanism out like you did, all I had to do was spray a little silicone grease on the pulleys , after which the previously jammed window glided up and down like new . When I did the other side later I punched holes for the little straw that goes in the spray nozzle, and cove red the holes with tape when I was done.

This reminds me, I need to try again to find a regulator for my buddy’s Renault Alliance. Have I mentioned that their regulator is a plastic tube with a coiled metal cable thing inside, with kind of a pipe cleaner wound into it to hold oil?

Oh yeah, and Renault are still doing that bullshit today:

It’s actually the fact that they’re still doing it today that gives me hope of fixing it. If I can buy one for a megane or something and cut to fit, it’s way easier than trying to find a Renault 9/Renault 11 one in Europe somewhere. Most of the Alliance’s Euro brethren have been scrapped, so...

Although - funny story - the timing belt tensioner on the 1.7 motor as his has is also used on some Volvos, so it’s possible to source. Go figure.

The horrible cable that raises the window up and down uses the gaps as gear teeth, so the winder gear engages the cable directly. It’s simple and lightweight (one way the Alliance was the lightest four-door sedan of modern US manufacture), but puts you at the mercy of PTFE plastics what have aged to death. *CRACK* “Oh, feck”. *window refuses to raise*
